The Sd.Kfz. 252 (Leichter Gepanzerter Munitionskraftwagen) was a specialized, light armored half-track ammunition carrier built on the Demag D7p chassis of the Sd.Kfz. 250 family to supply Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) assault gun units during World War II. Operated by a two-man crew, the vehicle was completely enclosed—unlike the open-topped Sd.Kfz. 250—featuring a steeply sloped armored rear with large double doors for loading shells, twin overhead hatches, and an FuG 15/16 radio set, while towing a two-wheeled Sd.Anh. 32 trailer capable of holding 64 rounds of 75 mm ammunition. Production was handled by a consortium including Demag, Büssing-NAG, Wegmann, Böhler, and Deutsche Werke, resulting in 413 units produced between June 1940 and September 1941. Initially intended to equip StuG batteries on a 1-to-1 ratio per assault gun, production shortages reduced allocation to three per battery (one per platoon), and manufacturing was ultimately phased out in late 1941 in favor of the cheaper, simpler Sd.Kfz. 250/6 variant, with remaining units serving on the Eastern Front until around 1943.
